The Rectors of St. Andrew's Church, Great Linford

We have a number of sources to identify the rectors of Great Linford, not least of which is the list that is displayed in two glass frames within St. Andrew’s Church. Interestingly, we have an account from The Northampton Mercury Newspaper of May 29th, 1931, which tells us that the then Rector, Henry Andrewes Uthwatt, had been investigating for the past nine years the names of past Rectors, and was intending to have this research written up on parchment, which would then be framed in oak. It seems unlikely that if this came to fruition, the document displayed in St. Andrews is the original conceived by Henry Uthwatt; it lists the rectors of the parish up to 2002 and it appears to have all been written in the same hand. The presumption must then be that this is a recent copy.

Henry Uthwatt would have likely been aware that George Lipscomb had also investigated the history of St. Andrew’s Rectors, which was published in 1847 in his book The History and Antiquities of the County of Buckingham; it seems likely that Henry referred to this.
